Mary S. Smith

Mary S. Smith, a longtime resident of the Sayville-Bayport area, died on Thursday, May 18, 2017.  Born and raised in Livingston Manor, NY, Mary earned her BA in both English and History at Albany State University and her Master’s Degree in Education from Stony Brook University.  She was a beloved English teacher in the Sayville School District for more than twenty years.  Mrs. Smith was also a very active member of the community here on Long Island.  She was a longtime trustee of the Bayport-Blue Point Library, a member of the Sayville Garden Club, Bayport Homemaker’s Club, South Shore College of Womens’ Club and a founding member of the Bayport Civic Association where she served as Corresponding Secretary.  Mary was also an avid reader, gardener and traveler.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Robert, her two children, Mark and his wife Suzanne of Alabama and Molly Donnelly and her husband Chris of Arizona, her six grandchildren, Courtney and Katy Smith and Kyle (Lindsay), Connor, Kit and Owen Donnelly, as well as her three brothers, Wilfred Smith, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth and Robert Smith and his wife Gloria, both of Livingston Manor, New York and Thomas Smith and his wife Ellen of Oklahoma.

Friends and relatives will gather for a celebration of Mary’s life on Saturday, July 15, 2017, 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville, New York.  

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Bayport-Blue Point Public Library, 203 Blue Point Avenue, Blue Point, New York 11715, are appreciated.
