Robert W. McCarthy, 78, of Bayport, LI, died peacefully on November 27, 2016. Although he was born and raised in Brooklyn, he was a proud member of the first graduating class of Seaford High School, Class of 1956. In September he attended his 60th class reunion. After high school he served in the US Marine Corps during peacetime (1956-60) in underwater demolitions.
Arriving in Bayport in 1964 as a newlywed, he quickly made friends. His quick wit and friendly manner endeared him to many. His life was here and he enjoyed chatting it up at the Sayville Yacht Club or the Post Office.v Before his sons were eligible, Mr. McCarthy coached various teams in the Bayport Little League. It still remains unclear whether it was the coaching or hamburgers after a winning game that several of his seasons were remarkable
Mr. McCarthy is survived by his wife, Pat, his three sons, Michael and his wife Lea of Florida, Thomas of Bayport and Chris and his wife Kirsty of Montauk, as well as his grandchildren, Campbell, Shilo, Ryder, Aleah and Dana.
