Jerome I. Teich

April 17, 1924 ~ October 17, 2016 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Jerome (“Jerry”) Teich passed away Monday, October 17, 2016, at his home in Bellport, New York, on his 92nd and a ½ birthday.

Jerry was born April 17, 1924 in The Bronx, and grew up in the Sheepshead Bay/Manhattan Beach area of Brooklyn, where he lived with his parents Teddy and Nettie and siblings Lester, Harold and Marilyn in a two bedroom apartment. The first of his family to attend college, he graduated with honors from New York University School of Dentistry. He served in the Army in World War II and the Air Force in the Korean War, where he performed dentistry on wounded soldiers. After the service he opened his first orthodontic practice in the first floor of his family’s apartment building; and later moved to Patchogue to set up his practice and raise his family in the suburbs. He worked as an Orthodontist until his late 70’s. When not working, Jerry could usually be found “puttering” on one of many projects around the house. His amazing attention to detail was evident in his handiwork.

Jerry loved life and till his final days said every day he woke up he was happy to be alive. He will be remembered most for the look of love and pride in his eyes when observing his family. Those who knew him felt his love and generosity palpably.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife Priscilla, their 5 children William, David, David, Jeffrey and Lisa, 9 grandchildren Danielle, Allison, Jessica, Jerry, Benjamin, Laura, Jake, Samuel and Ava Grace and 2 great grandsons Cameron and Leonardo.

A celebration of his life service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 20, at the Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home (raynordandrea.com), 245 Main St., West Sayville, NY 11796. Donations may be made to Hospice Care at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital (brookhavenhospital.org).
