William Joseph Underwood

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of William Joseph Underwood, 75, on February 14th, 2025. William was born and raised in the Bronx on July 29th, 1949, to Joseph and Tina. He and his wife Anne and daughter TinaMaria moved out to Ronkonkoma in 1979 where their family continued to grow with two more daughters Tara and Jessica. William graduated from the New York Police Academy in February 1974 and throughout his NYPD career he became part of the Tactical Patrol Force (TPF) and Street Crime Unit (SCU).  He received 34 commendations becoming a member of the honor legion which recognized his acts of valor and service during his career. He retired from the department in 1986 and continued his dedication to protect and serve as a personal bodyguard for many years . William also owned and operated Melrose sewing machine company where he took pride in repairing countless sewing machines for his customers. He was the kindest most generous man who would do anything for his family and friends.  
He is survived by his daughters Tina(Jill), Tara (Chris), and Jessica (Brian). His grandchildren Aiden, Scarlet and Conor. His brother George (Loretta) his sister Jo-Ann and sister-in-law Mary. His nieces and nephews Christine, John(Erin), Sal, Joey (Nicole), Joanna (Phil) and Grace. His great nieces and nephews Ryan, Kieran, Sean, Aisling, Maeve, Finnegan, Sal Jr, Santino and Joseph Mack. William is predeceased by his wife of 50 years Ann and his sister Maria.
 

Visitation- Friday February 21, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. & 7:00 - 9:30 p.m. at our West Sayville Funeral Home, 245 Main Hwy.

Funeral Mass- Saturday February 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene RC Church, Bohemia
