Webb Morrison Obituary

***Friends and relatives will gather to celebrate Webb's life on Saturday, May 7th, 2-5 p.m. at our Bayport Funeral Home.**

Webb Nash Morrison, 95, of Chapel Hill, NC, formerly of Sayville, NY, passed away on January 23, 2022.  Born June 12, 1926, son of G. Elliott and Dorothy Nash Morrison, Webb grew up in Sayville where his father ran the Cedarshore Hotel and Cottages.  Webb graduated from Sayville High School in 1942; from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, in December 1946; and from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA, in 1948.  He also did post-graduate work in marketing at Temple University and the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania.  Upon graduation from Kings Point, he became an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve and maintained his position until he took retirement – after 42 years – as a Commander, USNR in 1986.

Webb served on cargo ships of the U.S. Merchant Marines during and for several years following World War II and then on active duty on the destroyer USS Caperton during the Korean War.  He was the recipient of the Merchant Marine Combat Bar, WWII Victory Medal (one star) and United Nation Medal.

Following sea service, he was continuously active in the healthcare industry where he progressed through diverse marketing positions at A.C. Nielsen; Smith, Kline & French; Cooper USA (Burroughs-Wellcome); and Schering-Plough.  Lastly, he was General Manager of Searle Pharmaceuticals Canada for four years and then President of Searle Farmaceutica do Brasil for two.

In 1978, Webb and his wife, Ann, returned to Sayville where he established his own organization, Mormar Consulting, which, primarily, offered new product evaluations and other marketing services to the pharmaceutical industry.

Mr. Morrison was a President of the Sayville Rotary Club and a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow; for 17 years a director/trustee of Hospice Care Network; and a member of the Sayville Historical Society.  Laterally, he produced his version of “Sayville History” for the Sayville Public Library.  His primary reference was The Suffolk County News.

His wife, (Eleanor) Ann Hutchison Morrison, Canadian by birth, was owner and proprietor of Coni’s Lingerie in Sayville.  She was also a President of the Sayville Rotary Club and very active in local affairs.  She passed away October 28, 2011.

In May 2016, Webb moved to Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to be closer to his daughter Victoria Hassink, son-in-law, Brian Hassink and his granddaughter, Emily Ann Hassink.  He is also survived by three nephews:  Elliott Morrison Ross of Tampa, FL, James D. Ross III of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Christopher Scott Ross of Salt Lake City, UT.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Webb's memory to either Hospice Care Network 99 Sunnyside Blvd, Woodbury, NY 11797 or to St. Ann's Episcopal Church, 257 Middle Road, Sayville, NY 11782, are appreciated.
