Walter R. Schmidt

Walter R. Schmidt. A resident of Oakdale passed away on June 23, 2021. A Proud Army veteran, Walter served his country for 2 years, before beginning his career as a Printer for Bowne Printing, NY Typographical Union # 6. He loved to tinker and fix anything he could get his hands on. Spending time taking apart and putting back together whatever he could find. Walter also enjoyed carpentry and worked part time as carpenter when he found time. He was very talented in his wood working as Walter built his daughter’s bedroom furniture, including a Captains bed. It was known in the community to walk down to Walter’s house on Labor Day weekend with your bowl and grab some of his famous once a year Clam Chowder.

 He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy, his children Robert of Holbrook, Debbie Schmidt (Billy) of North Babylon, and Lynne Ficalora (Steven) of North Babylon, and his grandchildren Danielle, Austin, and his favorite adopted grand dog Bailey.

 In lieu of flowers donations in Walter’s memory to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 would be appreciated.
