Viginia Birkel, a resident of East Islip for 65 years, passed away on December 10, 2024. Born in Brooklyn to Richard and Dolores Kennedy, she met her husband Bill at Grumman in 1968 and they were married in 1969. She is a beloved wife to Bill, mother to William J. (Alisa) and Doug M. (Alexandra), grandmother to Nicholas, William, Brooke, and Joseph, and friend to all who met her.
She was such a beautiful spirit who loved being with her family, gardening around the home, enjoying a dinner at her favorite restaurants, dancing, and spending time on the bay and at the beach. She was always the encouraging and positive influence on the people in her life, putting everyone she loved before herself. She was a dedicated caregiver to her husband Bill, and a great woman of God. Her faith and good nature helped bring many people into the church she loved, where she helped bring them closer to God.
