Vera J. Baker, age 84, resident of West Sayville died on April 2, 2025.
Vera was born in Kings Park, New York and grew up on Long Island where she attended college and earned an Associate Degree.
Vera raised two children, while being one of the first female court officers in New York state. Following her career, Vera became a full-time Grandma. She treasured her grandchildren and would take them along to play Bingo.
Throughout her life, Vera loved decorating for Christmas. She will be remembered as a personable, strong woman who was full of life and always saw the best in others. She never met a stranger she couldn’t have a pleasant conversation with.
Vera is survived by her children Charles and his wife Stephanie, and Kelly Baker, her grandchildren Catelynn, Travis Savard and his wife Casey, Samantha and Christina, her sisters Anna McCauley and Bella Pavese, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind cherished family dogs Remi, Jake, Gracie and Luna.
Vera is predeceased by her husband Charles and her son-in-law James Benson.
Family will receive visitors on Sunday, April 6 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home 683 Montauk Highway Bayport. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Lawrence RC Church in Sayville at 10 a.m. on Monday. Private cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association in Vera's name would be greatly appreciated.
