It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas E Allen of Bayport. Tom was born on May 4, 1954, and was the fourth of seven children born to Richard E Allen and Anastacia nee Erickson Allen. He is survived by his siblings Maureen Lea of North Carolina, Patricia Halcrow of Bayport, Richard Allen of Holbrook, Jeanne Spagnoli of Sag Harbor, Christine Allen of Bayport and Timothy Allen of Boston.
Following his graduation from Sachem High School, Tom joined the US Navy, serving until he received an honorable discharge in 1979. His time there was spent on the USS Whitney and he received Good Conduct award. He returned home to Long Island where he began a construction contracting company, then did the same after moving to Dunedin, Florida, where he owned a home. For several years there, he was also the owner of a “Serve-Pro” franchise.
In 2013 he returned to Long Island and began his career at Stop n’ Shop in Sayville. You may have seen him in his white apron serving you in the Meat and Seafood Departments. He made friends there and always spoke highly of them.
Most of all, Tom was an uncle to many nieces and nephews whom he adored. He will be missed by Richard McCourt, Brian McCourt, Timothy Allen-Morabito, Christopher Halcrow, Kevin Halcrow, Richard M. Allen, Jamie Chahalis, Thomas J Allen, Thomas Spagnoli, Kelly Powell, Danielle Sykora, Tyler D Allen, Christian Allen, Dylan Allen and Elijah Allen. He is pre-deceased by Michael T Allen and James J McCourt. Thomas spent his adult life caring about each of them and was a supportive and loving influence.
He was also a wonderful brother, brother-in-law, uncle and great-uncle who was funny, had a great singing voice and who loved learning new things. He will be terribly missed.
