Sonia Mercedes Veras, sadly passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Boulder Community Health Center, in Boulder, Colorado. She was born on April 24, 1949, daughter of Marie Veras and the late Jose Veras. Sonia Mercedes graduated from St. John’s University and worked as a Speech Therapist for the Connetquot School District. After graduating from Touro Law School and following her years in private law practice, Ms. Veras was elected to District Court Judge in Suffolk County, New York, being the first female Hispanic Judge in Suffolk County. After her years on the bench, she retired to Colorado. Sonia Mercedes was an avid reader, loved the arts, being out in nature and traveling.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Dr. Justine Duncan and her husband, George H. Duncan, Esq, her former husband and best friend, William J. Keahon, Esq., daughter Nora Keahon, son Joshua Talley, son David Brown and his wife, Debbie, and her most loving grandchildren, Madeline, Charlotte, Seraphina, Isabella, Anderson and David Jr. She was so loved and will be dearly missed by everyone who came to know her.
