Steven Boogertman Obituary

Steven G Boogertman (73) was born on March 27th 1952 to Edwin and May (Van Essendelft) Boogertman in Bayshore, New York. He entered his heavenly home to the loving arms of his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on October 15, 2025, after a short bout with leukemia and accompanying complications. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and May Boogertman and his brother and sister-in-law Brian and Karen (Schroeder) Boogertman. He is survived by his son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Chad, Cathy and Frederick Boogertman of Silverdale, Washington; his daughter and her spouse and their sons, Nicole and Beth Clarey, Tommy Clarey, Luke Katzaman and Luke’s dad Shawn Katzaman. Also surviving are his sisters, Virginia (Ray) Lackey of Caledonia, MI and Ann (Don) DeGroot of Byron Center, MI, his longtime friend and “brother,” Allen McFetridge of Maysville, North Carolina, two aunts, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 21 at 2 PM at Grace Church (formerly Faith Reformed Church), 618 32nd Street SW, Wyoming MI. Visiting hours will be held at Raynor and D’Andrea Funeral Home, West Sayville, NY on Saturday, October 25. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 11 AM with service to follow.  Interment will be at Union Cemetery, Sayville, NY.

As a boy and young man, Steve worked as a clammer on the Great South Bay, after which he took a job working as a truck driver for a beer distributor. For many years, he was an active member of the West Sayville Reformed Bible Church and had currently been an active member of the Faith Reformed Church of Wyoming, MI. He loved serving as a Calvinist Cadet counselor for many years, working with the boys to show Jesus’ love and to earn merit badges and attending camporees. Steve also served as a volunteer fireman with the West Sayville Fire Department for a number of years, starting out as a juvenile firefighter, and also on the racing team. He retired to Wyoming, MI in 2016 to be near family.
