Russell Wilkins, Jr. Obituary

Russell Wm. Wilkins, Jr. 62, of Centereach, NY formerly from Montrose and Peekskill NY passed away at Stony Brook Hospital on March 21, 2022 surrounded by his loving family members.

Russell was born to Russell Wm. Wilkins, Sr. and Annie Wilkins of Montrose, NY who predeceased him. He graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School. He is survived by his sister, Marsha (Robert) Haight of Myrtle Beach SC, two nieces Michele (Carlos) Montalvo of Fishkill NY, Kellyann DiLorenzo of Myrtle Beach SC and two great nephews Logan and Cayden. His cousins in Bluepoint NY, his Aunt Irene Saunders of Montreal Canada along with many cousins in Montreal and Kanawake Canada- his Mother's hometown.

Russell was a Free Mason and member of Courtlandt Lodge #34 F & A.M. for many years when he lived in Peekskill NY. Russell worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory for 20 years and prior to that other nuclear facilities that needed his services both in country and abroad. He loved to travel. He lived life to the fullest and loved living on the "island" enjoying the beach and all it had to offer. He was an avid reader and music lover. He would go deer hunting with his brother in law Bob and others. He also enjoyed yearly camping trips every Memorial Day weekend with a group of close friends.

Russell was proud of his Mohawk Native American heritage. He traveled back and forth to Canada to visit with family and every year in July he attended Pow Wow in Kanawake (also known as the "Res") until he could no longer do so.

He was a huge Washington Redskins fan and collected a lot of memorabilia. He was very upset when they changed the team name to Washington Commanders.

He rescued Lucy, a German Shepherd who he loved and adored until she passed away.
