Rosaleen Mary Bernadette Mongan (nee Ryan), passed away on March 14, 2025. Born October 12, 1933 in Galway City, Ireland to Gerard and Nora Ryan and Christened October 14, 1933 at St. Nicholas Pro Cathedral in Galway City. Rosaleen was the only daughter and eldest of five children, her brothers Alphonsus passed away in 2007, her brother Vincent passed away in 1998, her brother James passed away in 2001, and her youngest brother Raymond, who resides in Waterford, Ireland.
Rosaleen met her husband Thomas in Galway while he was on vacation visiting relatives, while serving in the United States Air Force, stationed in Germany in 1952. They were married at St. Michael’s Church, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin on February 23, 1954. They then left Ireland to come to the United States in 1954 and resided in Brooklyn until 1959. They then settled in Sayville, where they became members of St. Lawrence RC Church, as well as having their children attend St. Lawrence School.
As a woman with deep faith, Rosaleen was a member of the Legion of Mary, of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Galway from 1948 and the St. Lawrence Parish. She became an Eucharistic Minister in 1994 and an active member of the Ministry of Consolation in 1995. She was also an extraordinary member of the Queen of All Saints Guild Montfort Ministry in Bay Shore.
Rosaleen was also a member of The Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 7, East Islip and Our Lady of Knock Division 7. She would also volunteer her time at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Sayville and Southside Hospital, bringing Communion to the residents and patients on Sundays.
She is survived by her children Kevin and his wife Diana, Colleen and her husband Kevin, and Rosaleen and her husband Thomas, her eight grandchildren, Emily, Laura, Fiona, Kevin, Erin, Maureen, Meghan, and Conor, and her 10 great grandchildren Ava, Paul, Bryson, Jake, Ben, Oliver, Finn, Maeve, Kane, and Dean.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas Francis.
Visitation- Friday March 21, 2025 from 2;00 - 6:00 p.m. at our West Sayville Funeral Home, 245 Main St.
Funeral Mass- Saturday March 22, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence RC Church, Sayville
Interment- St. Lawrence Cemetery, Sayville
