Rodrigue Bosse, age 85, resident of Oakdale, L.I., died on September 24, 2025.
Rod was born in Rivière-Bleue, Quebec, Canada, one of fourteen children in a close-knit family. At the age of 18, he moved to the United States, where he taught himself English and began working as a lumberjack and carpenter. His strong work ethic and determination led him to a long and successful career as an Operating Engineer, a role he proudly held for over 50 years. Rod built a beautiful home on the water in Oakdale, where he and his beloved wife, Betty, raised their three sons.
Rod had a wide range of passions that brought him joy throughout his life. He loved being out on the water and took great pride in maintaining his home and lawn with the same care and precision he brought to his woodworking projects. A talented handyman, he could fix just about anything, and he especially enjoyed buying, restoring, and selling classic cars—a hobby that often took him to car shows, where he felt right at home. In his later years, Rod embraced the laid-back lifestyle of The Villages, where he was often seen cruising around in his streetrod golf cart. He was always at his happiest when surrounded by his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons Jeffrey and his wife Kim, James and his wife Nancy, Matthew and his wife Tess, his grandchildren Reese, Sophie, Henry, Natalie, Brianna, Andrew, Owen, and his great grandchildren Saylor and Emerson. His siblings Laurette, Madeleine, André Jean-Guy, Monique, Gilbert, Renée, Adrien, Huguette. Rod was predeceased by his beloved wife Elizabeth in 2017 and his siblings Reine, Raymond, Marcelle, and Danielle.
Family will receive visitors Tuesday, September 30th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home, 245 Montauk Hwy. West Sayville.
