Robert “Bob” L. Logomasini, DDS, a Long Island resident who owned and operated a highly successful dental practice in Sayville for 35 years, died on Saturday, December 21, 2024. He was 91.
Born in 1933 to Anna Leonard and New York City attorney Joseph Logomasini in Brooklyn, he was the youngest of four children and grew up in Crown Heights with his three brothers: Joe, Jimmy, and Jack. He was a graduate of the renowned Brooklyn Preparatory High School.
Bob earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Niagara University in 1954, where he was also a member of the U.S. Army ROTC program. After graduating from Niagara, he attended dental school at Saint Louis University, where he met nursing student Nancy Melter on a blind date, and they married while Bob continued studying dentistry. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Saint Louis University in 1959. Upon graduation, Bob became an active-duty officer for the U.S. Army Dental Corps, where he achieved the rank of captain. He took Nancy and their first child to serve overseas with the Army Dental Corps in France and eventually returned to complete his service at Fort Dix, New Jersey Army base until 1963.
After separation from the service, Bob moved his family to Sayville, N.Y., where he launched his dental practice and became a well-known and valued member of the community. While he and Nancy raised their growing family, Bob also participated in numerous community service activities, including serving as a member of the local Lions Club and as a staff member at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital for more than 35 years.
As a strong advocate for educational excellence, Bob also engaged in post-graduate activities in dental medicine. These included postgraduate work at New York University and the graduate dental program at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1979). In addition, Bob completed special training and courses in the theory and science of dentistry, emerging dental implant technologies, and many educational courses as a member of the American Dental Association.
Bob, along with his wife Nancy, built a large network of friends and especially enjoyed spending time with them in their Edwards Avenue home in Sayville. Many will remember celebrating holidays and events from Independence Day barbecues to Christmas Eve open houses followed by midnight mass, and popping Champagne at New Years celebrations.
Bob’s hobbies included a love for the sea, which included fishing, speed boats, sailing, and taking multiday yachting trips with a close group of friends. He loved travel, playing tennis, golfing, watching sports, reading history, politics, and medical sciences, and engaging in friendly political debates.
But the things he loved most were his beautiful wife Nancy and six children. He was an amazing loving father who always sought to cultivate his children’s talents, supporting their chosen educational endeavors. He taught them the value of hard work, critical thinking, but also the importance of enjoying life to the fullest.
Bob retired from dentistry in 1998 and moved to a home on a canal in Hampton Bays, where he could keep his boat ready for more adventures. He and Nancy enjoyed many years in their Hampton Bays home, sharing holidays and other events with their children and seven grandchildren, who he greatly loved.
Dr. Logomasini was predeceased by his wife, Nancy, in 2015. He is survived by his six children: Lisa Darling, Linda Fournier and her husband Michael of Connecticut, Robert, Jr. of Hampton Bays, John and his wife Coleen of Massachusetts, Anna Montgomery and her husband Greg of Virginia, and Dr. Angela Logomasini and her husband Christopher Prawdzik of Virginia. His legacy also lives on within his seven grandchildren: Christopher DelAcqua, Lauren DelAcqua, Christopher Montgomery, John Logomasini, Jr., Angela Logomasini, Julia Montgomery, and M.J. Fournier.
Friends and relatives will gather on Friday, December 27, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in Bayport. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28 at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Sayville, and interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
