Richard Joseph O’Brien, 80, a thirty-year resident of Bellport, NY, died on January 3, 2026. Born and raised in Park Slope, Brooklyn, Richard served in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War, commanding an Ontos and reaching the rank of Sergeant. He worked for many years in automotive sales at several car dealerships including Newins Ford and Sayville Ford. Mr. O’Brien was a longtime member and board member at the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 11 and a member of the Bayport Aerodrome.
Mr. O’Brien is survived by his wife, Colleen, by his children, Zachary of East Patchogue and Meghan of Manhattan, as well as his sister, Mary Zickmund of Mt. Sinai, and many nieces and nephews. He lived his life to the fullest and was loved by many.
Family will receive gather on Sunday, January 11th , 3-7 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in Bayport. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, January 12th 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snow RC Church in Blue Point and interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
