Richard Masterson, 88, a resident of Sayville since 1963, died on Thursday, December 19, 2024. Raised in Queens, Richard earned his Bachelor’s Degree in education at Marist College and went on to teach English at Copiague Schools for 35 years before retiring in 1994. In his retirement, he continued as an educator at Brunswick Hall.
Mr. Masterson is survived by his wife, Marie, his five children, John and his wife Kristina of Massachusetts, Patti Hess and her husband Bill of Connecticut, MaryBeth Keenan and her husband Thomas of Bayport, Jeanne McCormack and her husband Matt of Georgia, and Dan and his wife Madeleine of Centerport, NY, as well as eleven grandchildren, Julia, Mik, Zachary and his wife Chase, Nicholas, Jacqueline and her husband Saxon, Meghan, Danielle, Brendan, Katie, Morgan and Ruby, his sister, Joan Coleman of Staten Island, sister-in-law, May Elgers-Lo of Massachusetts, and his cherished friend, Marty Cullinan of Amityville. He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Henry.
Friends and relatives will gather on Friday, December 27th, 4-8 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28th at Our Lady of the Snow RC Church in Blue Point. A private cremation will follow.
