Richard Carbocci Obituary

Richard was born in Brooklyn, New York during the summer of 1940. Richard graduated Sayville High School in 1958 and then attended SUNY Oswego, graduating in 1962 and again in 1978 where he earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Arts Education. He married Patricia Wehrenberg in 1962 at the Lutheran church in Holbrook. Dick was part of the Boy Scouts of America for many years and then served as leader of Sayville Troop 100. Richard and Patricia bought their first house in Setauket in 1962, before building his own house in 1965 on Avenue E in Holbrook. Richard started teaching in 1962 and went on to teach high school shop class and for his entire teaching career.  He built and rebuilt car motors, did elaborate wood and metal work, as well as teaching photography, aviation, and power mechanics, and never took a sick day, Ever. Dick later worked on the ambulance as an EMT for many years and served as a volunteer firefighter for 50+ years, joining the Holbrook Fire Department in 1968, where he served as the secretary and Chaplain. In his spare time, Richard was the drummer of the Jericho Singers from 1972-1976 and obtained his pilot’s license in 1979. He also was an active member with the Grace Gospel Church and Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle where he served as a Deacon. Dick and Pat traveled later in life and were lucky enough to visit Alaska, Turkey, Italy, and Israel just to name a few. He retired from teaching in June 1995 and remained in his home until April 2024 when he moved into Sunrise Assisted Living. Then he finished his life at home with his daughter Gail in Holbrook.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Carbocci, his son Pete Carbocci, his daughter Gail Baird and his 4 granddaughters, Sara Carbocci, Shelby Baird, Emily Baird and Lily Baird.
