Stella Nina Mary Josephine Sciacchitano Lombardo, age 91, of Sayville, New York, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2022. Nina was born on September 1, 1930 in the Bronx, New York. It was there she was raised by her immigrant parents from Catania, Sicily, Concetta and Giacomo Sciacchitano. In the Bronx, she attended Evander Childs High School. Upon graduation, Nina was employed at New York University. After her marriage to Paul in 1956, they resided in the Bronx until moving their family to Sayville in 1967.
Nina was an active participant of St. Lawrence the Martyr Church where she was a communicant. She was also a talented artist who was a member of the Wet Paints Society for many years. Additionally, she was an accomplished pianist who not only enjoyed playing classical music, but was also adept at playing most any tune by ear. Nina looked forward to planning, entertaining and sharing her Italian heritage through her cooking and baking which always made every occasion special for family and friends alike. She was a talented seamstress who spent many an hour designing and sewing special occasion clothing for her daughters including their wedding dresses. Nina loved spending time in her backyard flower and vegetable gardens which always included basil for making fresh pesto. In their later years, Nina and Paul traveled and vacationed through Europe, as well visiting many US National Parks and relaxing on beaches both locally and abroad.
Nina was predeceased by her beloved husband Paul in 2015. Nina is survived by her loving daughters Ellen (Barry) Harris, Nina (David Bodnar) Lombardo and Lisa (Tom) Lombardo-Runco, her seven cherished grandchildren Jennifer, Matthew, Emily, Alexander, Julia, Lauren and Lia, and three wonderful great-grandchildren, Blake, Josephine and Lillian.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 22 from 4-8 pm at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 23rd 10:00 am at St. Lawrence the Martyr RC Church in Sayville. Interment to follow at Calverton National cemetery where she will lie in rest with her husband Paul.
