Michael Lettieri, 85, of Blue Point passed away on June 6, 2026. Michael was born in Brooklyn and raised in Ozone Park where he graduated from John Adams high school. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from New York University, where he also played baseball. He would then earn his master’s degree from St. John’s University. Michael taught physical education for 33 years, most recently at Dawnwood Middle School in the Middle Country school district, retiring in 1996. While he coached many sports throughout his teaching career, he stayed connected to the game of baseball by coaching his sons over the course of many summers. Michael was a devoted friend and activist towards those around him, allocating much of his time post-retirement, to community involvement. He was a founding member of the Bayport Organization for Youth, and served as an adjunct professor for student-teachers at Dowling College for nearly 20 years. He also volunteered with the Bayport Fire Department and coached in the Bayport Little League.
He is survived by his loving wife Linda, who married Michael in 1965, his children; Michael III (Trish) of Delaware, John (Kelly) of Oakdale, Julie Stein of South Carolina and Paul (Lauren) of Bayport, his grandchildren; Lauren Elizabeth, Michael IV, Mark, Samantha, Emma, Ava, Cole, Tristan, Mya, Ella, Declan and Harper, his great grandchildren; Nolan and Delaney, his brother Anthony (Brenda) of Malverne, and many other friends and neighbors.
