Mary Manzi Obituary

Mary Manzi (Reuss), of Oakdale, NY, beloved wife of the late, Thomas, peacefully passed away on March 17, 2024.  She was the cherished mother of Keri Cobb (Stephen), Eric, and Laura DeSantis (Joseph).   Daughter of the late Jeanne and Joseph Reuss. The third oldest child of nine siblings Susan, the late Janet, Maureen Munson (Ken), the late Arlene Herbert, Carol Generoso (Ron Voit), Lori Painter (Todd), Christopher Reuss, and Jennifer Lewis (Wayne).  The aunt to many dear nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Mary often reminisced about her cherished memories of playing in the basement with her sisters and enjoying carefree swims at the Sawyer Avenue pool.

From the tender age of 18, Mary embarked on a journey of love and adventure with her beloved Tommy.  Together, they nurtured a beautiful family filled with love and laughter.  Mary’s devotion to family was unmatched and she took immense joy in being called Mamie by her grandchildren, the late Thomas, Gina Marie, Natalie, Nico, Oriana, and Nadya, who were the lights of her life and the beat of her heart.

Mary’s circle of friendships was extensive, igniting the adventurous spirit within many, particularly her dear Geri and the late Jimmy, with whom she shared the journey of raising their families side by side, living next door to each other.

Among Mary’s cherished bonds, her enduring friendship with her kindergarten bestie, Kathy Higdon, stood out prominently, nurtured over the decades.

Mary's compassionate nature led her to pursue a career in nursing, beginning with her education at nursing school as she became an LPN. Her nursing career flourished primarily in home care where she provided unwavering support and love to countless children and their families. Her patience and kindness were legendary and her impact on those she cared for will be remembered for generations to come.

Mary was a versatile and accomplished woman. She owned the employee dining facility at an insurance company in Melville, where she highlighted her outstanding culinary talents and warm, jovial demeanor.  This endeavor employed many family members and nurtured enduring friendships.

Mary will be remembered for her unwavering love, her boundless generosity, and her zest for adventure.  Her legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire all fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's name to Boston Children's Hospital would be appreciated.
