Mary M. Holmes

Mary came to America on October 3, 1925 at the age of three with her parents John & Mary Zubal from Czechoslovakia to make a new life. They settled on Long Island and eventually called Bay Shore their home for many years. Mary graduated from Bay Shore High School in 1939.

Mary took on responsibility for her younger siblings: sister Ann and brother John. She was married in 1942 to Robert Holmes.

She worked various jobs to support the household until she took on the career path for which she was destined. As an Occupational Therapist at Pilgrim State Hospital for over twenty years she supported patients transition back into the community by teaching them domestic skills and practical decision making. She received the honor of "Employee of the Year" during her tenure.

Mary's life has always been about her faith and putting her faith in the service of her family. She was an active member of her local church for many years. As the matriarch of her family she has always been an inspirational leader to her children: Robert, Edward and Barbara as well as her nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.

​All who knew her cherish her memory and are grateful for the enrichment of their lives through her love, compassion, and kindness.

Visitation- Sunday December 4, 2022 from 2:00- 5:00 p.m. at our Bayport Funeral Home, 683 Montauk Hwy.

Funeral Mass- Monday December 5, 2022 at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snow RC Church, Blue Point

Interment- St. Patricks' Cemetery, 225 Brentwood Rd., Bay Shore
