Martin Ayrovainen was called home surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife Florence T. Ayrovainen and sons Daniel (Stacie), Thomas (Eileen), Robert, and Timothy (Denise).
He was the proud grandfather of Gregory, Logan, Alexa, Casey, Amy, Julia, Patrick, and Daniel as well as an uncle to numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.
Martin was born and raised along with his brother William by his parents (Arthur and Agnes) in Brooklyn, NY.
After attending Brooklyn Technical High School, he enlisted and proudly served in the United States Air Force.
Upon returning to NY following his enlistment, he met Florence Martin, who would become his wife. They recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
They purchased a home and raised their children in Lindenhurst, relocating to Sayville in their later retirement.
Martin worked in banking, employed with Manufacturer’s Hanover Trust Company for many years before retiring.
In retirement he was active with his church’s food pantry and the volunteer guild at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. His faith was very important to him, providing the deepest comfort and peace in his time of need.
He was a quiet man who enjoyed simple pleasures in life like a good cup of coffee and the company of his family or good friends.
He will be genuinely missed by all who knew and loved him.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John Nepomucene Roman Catholic Church 10:00 am Friday January 3rd, with internment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
