Madeline McCarthy Obituary

Madeline Redmond McCarthy, 81, of Bayport, LI, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family and friends. A radiant force of nature, Madeline embraced every moment of her extraordinary life with optimism, courage, and an unrelenting love for the people and world around her. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, compassion, and an enduring reminder to live life boldly and beautifully.

Madeline was a lifelong resident of the Town of Islip, spending her final 25 years in Bayport after a childhood in Central Islip and her early family life in Brentwood. From her beginnings in Brooklyn to her adventures in Fort Myers, FL during retirement, Madeline made every step of her life’s journey count.

As a mother of thirteen children, grandmother of seventeen, and great-grandmother of four, her home was always filled with love, laughter, and the joy of family—nicknamed Grand Central Station. Even while raising her large family, Madeline’s curiosity for learning never ceased. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Social Work, enhancing her career as an Intensive Case Manager with the NY State Office of Mental Health. Through her work, Madeline brought hope and care to countless individuals, never hesitating to give everything she could to help and support others in need.

In retirement, Madeline continued to embody a passion for new experiences. Whether spending her days with loved ones in Bayport or driving (sometimes all over the place) in a golf cart down in the Fort Myers retirement community she loved, she filled her time with meaningful adventures, friendships, and magical moments.  Making memories was always a priority.

Madeline was the longtime loving partner of Connie Kircher. She was cherished by her thirteen children—Patrick, Daniel (Mary), Robert (Evelyn), William (Susan), Brian, Michael, the late Matthew, Madeline Higgins, Kathleen Burkhard, Ronald, Gregory (Jussary), Paul (Leo), and Josephine. She adored her seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, was a beloved sister to eight—predeceased by Ronald Redmond and Maureen Redmond, and survived by Arlene D’Anna, Richard Redmond (Ellen), Douglas Redmond (Millie), Gregory Redmond (Mary), Frances Gibson, and Mark Redmond, sister-in-law of, Barbara Redmond—and an aunt to 24 nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate Madeline’s incredible life on Thursday, December 19th and Friday, December 20th from 4-8 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 21st at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snow RC Church in Blue Point, followed by her interment at St. John of God Cemetery in Central Islip.

Madeline’s life was a testament to the belief that every moment is a gift, and she taught everyone who knew her to embrace the world with open arms, a joyful heart, and an adventurous spirit. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered in all who strive to live as fully as she did.
