Larry Garrett Obituary

Larry Martin Garrett, age 68, of West Sayville, NY, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 24, 2026.

Larry was born on April 19, 1957, in Florida, to and is survived by Johnny and Florence Garrett. From a young age, he showed a deep curiosity for the world and a love of learning. He pursued higher education at Suffolk Community College, Stony Brook University, and Polytechnic University, earning degrees that would serve him well in his career.

Larry served honorably in the United States Coast Guard, a testament to his dedication, discipline, and love of country. Following his service, he worked as an Electrical Engineer at Smith’s Aerospace Avionics, where his skill and commitment left a lasting impact on colleagues and projects alike.

At age 46, while on a business trip in England, Larry suffered a stroke that changed the course of his life. Though the road to recovery was challenging, Larry faced it with courage, determination, and unwavering faith. His resilience inspired everyone around him, and he continued to find joy in family, hobbies, and the beauty of everyday moments.

On life’s journey, Larry was blessed to share over 45 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Eunice Garrett. Together they built a family grounded in love, faith, and laughter. He was a proud father to Lois Garrett, Laurie Hlavac, Cheryl Rickman, and David Garrett, and a devoted and proud grandfather to Benjamin, Josephine, Jonathan, Calvin, and Peter. He also cherished his extended family—sons-in-law Guy Hlavac and Darren Rickman, daughter-in-law Hope Garrett, sister Candy (M. Michael) Thayer, brothers Johnny (M. Rohini) Garrett and Rickey (M. Shelia) Garrett and Nieces Lee and Alessia and Eunice’s much loved Extended Family

Larry’s life was rich with hobbies and passions: photography, stained glass artistry, boating, aviation, traveling, and a fascination with history. He brought joy and creativity into everything he did and was known for his generosity, humor, and steadfast faith.

Larry’s faith was central to his life, and he drew comfort from the promises of Scripture. One of his favorite verses was:

Psalm 121: 1-2

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
