Laila Barone, age 84, passed peacefully on August 21, 2025, in Connecticut, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
She was a selfless and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. To know her was to love her.
Born July 9, 1941, in Oslo, Norway, she came to America in 1952 along with her mother, father and brother to start a new life. She graduated from Riverhead High School and soon after met and married the love of her life. Laila always loved singing and dancing, and would many times fondly recall the opportunity she had to dance on American Bandstand!
Laila married Richard Barone Sr. on Easter Sunday, April 2, 1961, and soon after began building a beautiful life and family; which was always her pride and joy. They were married for 61 beautiful years before his passing in 2022, and it is a love story for the ages!
Laila is survived by her daughter, Diane and her husband Tom, Grandchildren: Nicole (Dan), Tommy (Alexandra), Courtney, Kayla, and her brother, Kjell (Anne). She was a great- grandmother to Eleanora! She was predeceased by her son Richard Barone Jr in 2012.
Laila will always be remembered for her love of traveling and spending time with family. She devoted her life to caring for others, and always putting family, friends, and neighbors first. She never hesitated to offer kindness, comfort, or a helping hand. She had just recently moved to Connecticut to live with her daughter and son in law.
Family will receive visitors on Wednesday, August 27th from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. A funeral mass will take place at St. John Nepomucene RC Church, in Bohemia at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Burial to follow at the parish cemetery.
