Kathleen Plechner Obituary

On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, our mom, Kathleen P. Plechner entered eternal life peacefully. Kathy was adored by her many friends and beloved by her family. She was predeceased by her parents, Bridget and Elroy, and her step-father Jeremiah, and her two brothers, Kenny and George. Her surviving children Rob (Geraldine) and Greg will miss her and her love of all things sweet! Her three grandchildren, Charles, Bridget, and Lily have many wonderful memories with their grandmother.

Kathy loved to squeeze as much enjoyment out of life as she could. From her early childhood days fishing the Great South Bay with her father, to surrounding herself with all her amazing friends at any opportunity she could. She had an unfettered passion for shopping til she dropped and In her prime, she was an avid golfer, boater, traveler, and all around seeker of a good time! Her love of being on the water was second to none.

Her sense of caring and compassion were a marvel to witness. Through these last few days, the number of times we have heard - 'She was like a second mother to me' - has been a heartwarming reminder of who she was and how she treated those close to her.

An important part of her was her Irish heritage and her successes as a young person as a bagpiper and step-dancer for the Barrett Family Pipes & Drums band. There were many St. Patty's Day journeys down 5th Avenue and even an appearance on American Bandstand. A horrendous car accident as a teen, literally shattered her body, but never her spirit. The implications of that accident unfortunately stayed with her throughout her life but she always tried to do as much as she was able to, smiling all the way.

Unfortunately, dementia slowly started to take her away from us over the last few years and we are thankful that we did have a long goodbye. Through it all she never lost her passion for.her beloved Diet Coke with a glass so full of ice, that not much else could fit in it! We are comforted by all the outpouring of support and kindness and the fact that she entered her spiritual life peacefully.

She will be missed and we are grateful for the time we shared.

May the road rise to meet her and may the wind be always at her back, may the sun shine warmly upon her face, ..., And until we meet again, May God hold her in the palm of his hand.
