Joseph Torma Obituary

Joseph S. Torma was born in Buffalo NY January 5, 1928 and passed away in Long Island NY September 15, 2020. He was a resident of Bayport, NY for the past 3 years. He grew up in Buffalo and moved to California in his teen years. As a young man with a keen interest in aviation he met Jimmy Stewart at Santa Monica and worked on his P51 race plane "Thunderbird" in the late 1940's. In the early 1950's he was drafted in the Army and was in one of the first US Army helicopter classes. During his service in the Army he met his beautiful wife to be Patricia. After being honorably discharged from the Army they were married and he found work flying helicopters to oil rigs in the Louisiana gulf. He applied and was accepted as a pilot with Eastern Airlines in 1955. During his long and exemplary career with Eastern  he flew everything from pistons to Jets and retired as a check Airman on the A300. Following his retirement in 1988 Joseph and Patricia traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe. Joseph also bought a Cessna 182 which he enjoyed working on and flying.

Joseph is predeceased by his wife Patricia. He is survived by his son Mark, daughter Lynn, grandchildren Nicole, Christopher, Rebecca, Paul and Elizabeth and 11 great grand children. Joseph was an honest, caring, giving and loving husband and father all his life and will be deeply missed by his family.

 

Visitation for Joseph will be held on Friday September 18th from 4pm to 7pm in our Bayport location (683 Montauk Hwy Bayport, NY 11705)

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday September 19th, 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church in Bethel, Connecticut.

Burial to follow at the parish cemetery.
