John F. Modica, 93, a resident of Ridge, NY for more than ten years, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026. Raised in Brooklyn, John served as a corporal in the U.S. Army at Fort Myer, VA. Before moving to Ridge, he was a longtime resident of East Meadow, where he was an active member of St. Raphael R.C. Church, volunteering as an usher, and was a member of the local Knights of Columbus council. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge in Brooklyn. John was a plumber for the entirety of his career, working with Plumbers Union Local 1.
Mr. Modica is survived by his wife, Margaret; his sister, Phyllis Palopoli; his four children, Rosina Raines and her husband Danny of South Carolina, John and his wife Connie of Massapequa, Ann Cobb and her husband Clayton of Fort Salonga, and Claire Desabato and her husband Paul of Sayville; his eleven grandchildren, Kevin, Kaitlin, Jeremy, Brent, John, Patrick, Jackson, Audra, Leah, James and Ryan; and his nine great-grandchildren, Gianna, Jay, Grace, Ellie, Hunter, Peyton, Brooklyn, Bailey and Brielle.
Friends and relatives will gather on Tuesday, June 30th, from 3-7 p.m. at Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 1st, at 11:15 a.m. at St. Lawrence R.C. Church in Sayville, and interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
