John Donald Marshall, Sr., 89, of Sayville, NY, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. A proud Navy veteran and devoted family man, John had been a resident of Sayville for the past 25 years.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, John served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Intrepid during the Korean War. After his service, he moved to Long Island in 1966 and worked for many years as a lineman with New York Telephone Company, retiring as a foreman in 1995.
In retirement, John embraced a simple, peaceful routine. Nearly every day, he could be found driving to the 7-Eleven in Sayville for coffee before heading down to Land’s End, where he parked along the Great South Bay to read for hours. It was his favorite place to spend quiet time, enjoying the view and the peacefulness of the water.
Mr. Marshall is survived by his two sons, John Jr. and his wife Susan of Florida, and Steve and his wife Donna of Sayville; his six grandchildren, Jack, Janella, Nick, Taylor, Tori, and Tricia; and his eight great-grandchildren, Caleb, Connor, Emma, Ethan, Owen, PJ, Raegan, and Slater. He is also survived by his brother, Ernie Marshall of New Jersey and several nieces and nephews across the US.
Friends and relatives will gather on Thursday, July 10th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, which was John's favorite charity.
