John Creegan Obituary

John J. Creegan, 76, born in Brooklyn, NY and a 48-year resident of Oakdale, NY, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022.

John worked 30 years as a Power Systems Operator with the NYC Transit Authority before retiring in 2002. During his retired years, John dedicated his life to the service of others. He was an active member of St. John Nepomucene Roman Catholic Church. As a Eucharistic Minister, he visited sick patients at Good Samaritan Hospital every week and volunteered at the Stony Brook Veteran’s Home with his daughter Lindsey. He also participated in the Church’s “Sandwich Society” where he would prepare and deliver provisions for the needy and homeless. John was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and belonged to the local Sunrise Council, where he met some of his closest friends and brothers. He served as a 4th Degree Knight and Past Grand Knight.

John proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1966-1972, earning the rank of Sergeant. During his active duty, Mr. Creegan served in Stuttgart, Germany. He was an active member of his local AMVETS Post 18.

John, or sometimes Jack, was an amazing, loving, and devoted family man. He is survived by the love of his life, Dorothy, having just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2022. His legacy includes his sons John and Patrick, his daughter Lindsey, and his granddaughter Luna. He also has two daughters-in-law, Stefanie and Agatha, whom he loves as his own. John is also survived by his younger sister, Rita Zaremba, his best friend. He also was a proud father figure to Joey Varley, whom he considered his son.

Friends and relatives will gather on Monday, November 28th, 2-4:30 & 7-9:30 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday at St. John Nepomucene RC Church in Bohemia, and interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
