John Joseph Brennan was born March 6, 1929 in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, the youngest of five children. He died September 7, 2021, of natural causes. He attended West Chester State Teachers College (now West Chester University) after serving in the US Navy, where he attained the rank of lieutenant. After he began teaching high school, he met and married Eunice I. Plante, the love of his life and wife for 58 years. He later attended Northwestern University in Illinois, where he achieved a Masters in Education. He taught Social Studies at East Islip High School for many years and briefly served as chair of the department. He coached football early in his career. He loved to go sailing with his friend, Rod Grimm, and participated (with hilarious results) in local races in a broad, wooden sailboat called “The Love”. After retiring from teaching, he worked at the New York State Teachers Registry for 15 years. He is survived by their children Catherine (Daniel), Dr. Mary Brennan (Tom), John (Susan), Matthew and Madeline, who became his commercial acting partner in recent years, and grandchildren Jason, Isabella, Nina, Neil and Amanda, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home 245 Main Street West Sayville, NY 11796 on Sunday September 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral mass will be held on Monday September 13, 10:00 am at St. Lawrence the Martyr RC Church in Sayville. Interment to follow at the parish cemetery.
