John Bonanno Obituary

On Saturday, May 17, 2025, John Bonanno, at 89 years old, passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones. John was born on January 16, 1936, in Brooklyn from Italian parents, Concetta and Thomas Bonanno. He was raised in Brooklyn and is predeceased by his sisters, Marian and Gloria.

John lived a full happy life. Those who had the privilege of knowing John will remember him for his kind heart, positivity and natural ability to always make you feel good.

He was a dedicated and hardworking man who held various roles throughout his career, most notably as a hardware analyst. For many years, he made the daily commute from Long Island to Manhattan. The role he cherished above all else was “loving husband.” At the young age of fifteen, he met the love of his life, Lorraine Vito, at a neighbor’s birthday party and their first date was at a local school dance. John and Lorraine defined true love through their devotion to each other and were happily married for 63 years. They had four children: Thomas, Joseph, Laurene and Lisa.

John loved to travel the world with Lorraine—from Europe, to the Caribbean, on cruise ships, road trips and to the bingo tables. He cherished every moment they spent together, whether big or small.  In his free time, John enjoyed cheering on his New York sports teams, the New York Rangers and New York Giants.

Later in life, John was known to many by Pop, and being a grandfather was one of his greatest joys. He was the grandfather who “got your nose,” would give you endless candy and snacks, always gave you a ride, and played cards with you past bedtime. He was fortunate to love and be loved by ten grandchildren (Jayme, Leann, Sean, Scott, Christy, Lindsey, Ashley, Stacey, Josh, Bryce) and thirteen great-grandchildren (Reagan, Carson, Luke, Mackenzie, Jack, Sawyer, Hudson, Lily, Luke, Alivia, Sabrina, Ava, Penny).

John had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by everyone whose life he touched. His spirit will live on forever.
