We are here today to say goodbye, share memories and to celebrate a life well lived. He was known by many names: Joel, Dad, Pop, Grandpa, Papa, Mr. Miyagi, Papa Smurf, Santa dee Claus and our Gnome.
He loved company, gatherings and always loved a good party. He was very interested in what everyone was up to and brought light to any gathering. We all know very well there was never a grey area with him, he didn’t beat around the bush and wasn’t afraid to let you know why he was right and you were wrong because we all know he was always right.
He enjoyed several hobbies and pastimes such as; Futbol (French National Team of course!!) and NFL Football (Giants was his team). His vast collection of soldier figurines was his life long hobby. You could often find him either enjoying his music with headphones, singing or sunbathing on the deck for hours with his binoculars looking at all the planes that he contributed to designing and shared it all with his grandkids. Jokes and stories that are embedded in our memories will be continued to be told for years to come. In addition to speaking two languages, he had his own language consisting of numerous made up words that were sure to provide many laughs.
He is survived by his family. Loving wife of 57 years, Louise, his children Michael (Tricia), Lisa (John) and, grandchildren; Connor, Clare and Samantha. His brother Patrick, (Sherry), many nieces and nephews and he loved them all. His parents predeceased him; George Levy (1978) and Fiby Levy (2003).
He cherished his grand dogs; Riley, Izzy and Dakota.
He was proud of his heritage. He enjoyed researching his family history. Through the years he has made many lifelong friends that he cherished time and conversation with.
He had an interesting career in aeronautical engineering and contributed to many space shuttles, planes and helicopters, including the Lunar Module(Apollo 11), A6 Intruder, F14 TomCat, Space Shuttle Columbia to name a few. This in itself was impressive but for him at mid career having to learn a new way of completing his job in the computer era amazed us.
We are thankful for the many many memories to carry us through the rest of our lives. He will be forever missed and remembered lovingly.
Thank you everyone for taking the time to be with us.
And as he always said, BC “Be Cool”
