Joan O’Hara, 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Joan later moved to Long Island, where she graduated from Babylon High School in 1951. While working at the Bank of Babylon, she met the love of her life, Joseph O’Hara, her devoted husband. Together, they made their home in Sayville, where they raised their five children and built a life grounded in family, hard work, and deep love. Joan also worked as a legal secretary for over 40 years before she retired.
Joan’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She cherished every moment with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She found happiness in gardening and expressed her creativity through painting and ceramics that became treasured family keepsakes. Joan loved family gatherings. She was also a proud member of the St. Lawrence Choir, where she shared her love of music and faith.
Joan is survived by her children: Mary Joan Kendrot and her husband Michael, Rosemarie Watroba and her husband Gary, Joseph T. O’Hara and his wife Meredith, Marilyn O’Hara, Gerard O’Hara and his wife Laurie. She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren and a beloved great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Joe in 2023.
Joan will be remembered for her kindness, unwavering dedication to her family, and the warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy of love lives on through the generations she leaves behind.
