Joan Rose Dockweiler Lund, age 83, passed away on Monday, May 19th, 2025, at Health First Palm Bay Hospital. Born in The Bronx, New York she was the daughter of Bernard and Shirley Dockweiler. She received her Bachelor of Science from Oneonta State College and Master’s degrees from Dowling College, both in Education. She taught elementary and middle school students throughout the Islip Public School District for over 30 years and was an adjunct professor at Stony Brook University and Dowling College.
She belonged to Alpha Sigma Beta sorority and many book clubs. She enjoyed playing golf, bridge, Mexican dominoes, doing crossword puzzles, boasting of her daily Wordle results to friends and family, reading, growing beautiful orchids on her balcony and entertaining at Davis Park. She will be remembered for her wit, love of travel with sorority sisters, intelligence, wisdom, free flowing opinions, unconditional love of family, especially her many grandchildren and best friends Cathy and Alan.
She is survived by her sister BJ Dockweiler Stiefel and husband Frank, her children Jay Lund and wife Jean, Jenna Murphy and husband Tim, Jeffrey Lund and wife Crystal, daughter-in-love Tara Otis, sister-in-law Joyce Dockweiler, ex-husband John Lund, nieces Hannah, Sofie, Gretchen, Elizabeth and Melissa, nephew Daniel, grandchildren, Hayley, Kaitlyn, Kieran, Lauren, Olyvia, Abigail, Thea, Lilly, Carson and Landon. She was predeceased by brother Bill Dockweiler.
