Jeffrey Bond Richards, 81, of Playa del Rey, California, passed away suddenly on April 20, 2026. Born and raised in Bayport, New York, Jeff was the oldest of six children of the late Margaret and Richard Richards. He graduated from Bayport-Blue Point High School and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree at Stony Brook University.
Jeff continued to be an accomplished faux finish painter in California and New York throughout the years. He had a deep love for ALL animals, many of which he rescued, nourished and cared for when needed. He sang with the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir of Santa Monica for spectacular spring and Christmas classical choral concerts directed by his dear friend Dr. Jim Smith and with the church's "Summer Sings" sing-alongs. He also sang in the Santa Monica College Concert Chorale. He loved hiking, canoeing, travel, sight-seeing, H-O train collecting and photography as seen in the publication of his unique coffee table picture book, Fire Island in Color.
Jeff is survived by his siblings, Meredith D’Andrea and her husband Gil of Islip, Bryan Richards and his wife Beth of Virginia and Joanne Rosche and her husband Jeff of Center Moriches, as well as his many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret in 1970 and his sister Edith in 2025.
Friends and relatives will gather on Sunday, May 31st, 2-6 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 1st at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Sayville and interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
