Jean Fonseca passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025 at Our Lady of Consolation Nursing & Rehabilitative Care Center in West Islip at the age of 91. Jean was born on November 8, 1933 in New York City, raised in Middle Village (Queens), and a long-time resident of Oakdale and later Sayville, New York. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Jean lived a life filled with love of her family, kindness to others, and faith in God. Her wonderful and sincere smile was a window into her personality, character, and soul. Besides caring for and raising her six children, Jean was active in her Long Island community. She spent many years enjoying her work as an Avon representative, reaching presidential level status and took great pride in and dedication to her career at the Connetquot Public Library. Jean taught piano to neighborhood children, volunteered at community nursing homes, and was a member of the St. John Nepomucene (Bohemia) church choir.
Jean is survived by her loving children, Thomas, Mary Gleckler, Annette Glavich (James), Catherine, and Charles (Lorie), her five grandchildren, Robert (Erin), Edward, Michelle, Justin, and Madeline (Hunter), three great grandchildren (Olivia, Hudson, and Holden) and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased in death by her beloved husband, Thomas, her son, Edward, and her brother, John.
The family is deeply grateful for the committed and compassionate care Jean received at Our Lady of Consolation for almost nine and one-half years.
