James Smith Obituary

James R. Smith, 71, of Davis Park, Fire Island, and Ponte Vedra, Florida, died on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. Born in Brooklyn, at 12 years old, his father moved the family “out to the country” to Sayville, Long Island, where he lived for over fifty years. He graduated from Sayville High School in 1969 & was very proud of his six years in the Army. Jim owned and operated North East Communications Contracting alongside his wife, June Haskins, for nearly thirty years. He also was a long-serving Fire Commissioner at Davis Park.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, June, his daughter, Alicia Kayler, granddaughter Avery Kayler, as well as his siblings, Terry Meyer, Bill and Steve Smith.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville.
