James Bernard Hamill, lovingly known as Jimmy to his family and friends, passed away on June 11, 2026, at the age of 76.
Jimmy dedicated his career to caring for others as both a Registered Nurse and Physician Assistant. He spent his career working at Central Islip State Hospital/Pilgrim State Hospital, as well as satellite facilities, where he found particular purpose in caring for patients diagnosed with psychiatric illness.
He found great happiness in the outdoors. Whether tending to his garden, fishing, swimming in the ocean, playing tennis, watching boats at the local docks, or spending time along the St. Lawrence Seaway, Jimmy was most at peace near the water and in nature. His family will always remember the pumpkins, watermelons, tomatoes and sunflowers he planted each year for his daughters.
Jimmy is survived by Susan, his beloved wife of 53 years; his daughters, Sarah (Jesse) and Megan (Mitchell); and his cherished granddaughters, Madeleine, Audrey, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his siblings Mary (Phillip), Annemarie (Tim), Barbara (Andy), John (Laurel), and William “Billy” (Tracy); his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Thomas (Debra), Eugene (Kathy), and Maureen (Dennis); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas (Jan) and Daniel.
Family will receive visitors on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 7:00–9:00 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home, 683 Montauk Highway, Bayport, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snow Church, 175 Blue Point Avenue, Blue Point, NY 11715.
