James A. Dougherty, 91, a fifty-year resident of Oakdale, LI, died suddenly on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, James graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School and would later earn his Bachelor’s Degree at John Jay College and his Master’s Degree at Dowling College. Mr. Dougherty worked with the NYPD before retiring as a Lieutenant in 1983. He also served in the US Marine Corps.
Mr. Dougherty is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his children, Karen of Sayville, Christopher of Manhattan, Michael of Barcelona, Spain and Donna Coan and her husband Michael of Sayville, as well as his three grandchildren, Michael, Jack and Bella. He was predeceased by his oldest son, Jimmy in 1981.
Friends and relatives will gather for a commital service and military honors at 12 noon on Friday, July 1st at St. John’s Cemetery in Bohemia. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville.
