James P. Bast, 49, of Sayville, LI, died on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. Born and raised inForest Hills, Jim graduated from Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School. He worked for more than 23 years with the NYPD before retiring as a Sergeant Special Assignment. More recently, he worked on Michael Bloomberg’s private security team. Jim was a 9/11 First Responder, a member of the Sergeant’s Benevolent Association, and an active coach in several youth sports programs for his three children.
Sgt. Bast is survived by his wife, Kristin, his three children, James, Thomas and Megan, his mother, JoAnn Bast of Oakdale, two brothers, William and his wife Regina of Great River and Brian and his wife Andrea of Oakdale, as well as his mother and father-in-law, Cheryl and Eugene Milmoe of Sayville and his sister-in-law, Jennifer Kenwell of Palm Beach, Florida. Jim was predeceased by his father, William.
