Grace McKernan

Grace Eileen O'Brien McKernan, formerly of Bayport, NY, died September 3, 2021 at St. John of God Retirement Center in Los Angeles, CA.

Grace, born January 11, 1931, was raised in Brooklyn Heights, NY and spent her summers in Sayville before permanently settling down in Bayport. She graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. Grace was a 7th grade Science teacher at Seneca Middle School in Holbrook, NY where she taught for 20 years. She was an avid tennis player, loved her weekly bridge game with her friends and taking the LIRR into the City where she was a season ticket holder to the Roundabout Theatre. Grace was known to bring excitement and happiness with her great wit which she delivered with elegance. Upon retirement Grace enjoyed her trips to Montecatini, Italy, Aruba and visiting her children in Florida and California. 

Grace is survived by her four children; Patti Robinson and her husband Scott of Los Angeles, CA,  Peggy Kaste and her husband David of  Daytona Beach, FL, Peter McKernan Jr. and his wife Julie of Ormond Beach, FL and Mary Grace McKernan of Culver City, CA, nine grandchildren; Brian, Leigh, Emily, Meghan, Katie, Peter, Shannon, Patrick and Keelan and fourteen great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday October 1st at 9:45AM at Our Lady of the Snow RC Church, Blue Point. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Sayville.
