Gina Blenk was the most beautiful person, inside and out. I am the luckiest girl in the world to be able to call such an amazing woman, “Mom.” Having her as my mother for 25 years wasn’t nearly enough time and I will never understand why she was taken from us so soon. She is a true warrior and put up the biggest fight imaginable for the past two years. She never let cancer beat her down. She was always so humble and agreed to whatever the doctors threw her way. She never became mean or angry and I respect her so much for that. I would always tell her I didn’t know how she did it, because if I was her, I would have given up a LONG time ago. She even went back to work in between treatments because she loved her job so much at Connetquot High School, and missed all of her beautiful co-workers. She was beyond devastated when she was forced to retire due to her failing health. But my dad would tell her all the time what a F***ING AMAZING woman she was and she still didn’t let anything stop her! She was always the one apologizing and feeling bad when anyone would care for her, and it never made any sense to me, but it just goes to show what an incredible woman she was. She wasn’t the happy go-lucky person we all knew for a long time now, and I am glad she is finally at peace and in a better place. She could only take so much…but I am so beyond heartbroken because I am left on this earth with the pain of losing my best friend. We were the closest mother-daughter duo around. We did everything together and I told her all my deepest secrets. It’s the little things I’m going to miss the most, like her sending me a little text to let me know how much she loves me, watching the Mets games together on TV, and lounging on pool floats all summer long. It’s going to be extremely difficult to go through life without her and the saddest part is that I know she didn’t want to leave this earth so soon. I could see the pain and the hurt in her eyes. But she reminded us all how much she loved us until she wasn’t physically able to anymore, and I know everyone and anyone who reads this will never stop talking about her and will never let the memories they have of her fade away. The best compliment I can be told is that I look just like her, or if someone tells me how much she meant to them. She touched everyone she ever met in such a special way, and she will continue to, just as an angel from heaven.
