Frank B. Olson

Frank Bernard Olson, age 86, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, in Houston, Texas. A resident of Kingwood, Texas, and formerly of Bayport, New York, Frank leaves behind a legacy of devotion, service, and profound love for his family.
 

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 24, 1939, Frank was the son of the late Jenny and John Olson, who emigrated from Sweden. He grew up in Brooklyn, attending Brooklyn Technical High School before graduating first in his class from the RCA Institute in Manhattan.

Frank proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1957 through 1960. As an aircraft electronics technician, he was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, and Reykjavik, Iceland. Following his military service, Frank dedicated 38 years to Grumman Aerospace as a software engineer. He contributed to the development of numerous aircraft, most notably the E-2 Hawkeye, which included spending ten meaningful years in Cairo, Egypt, supporting the Egyptian Air Force.

An avid fisherman and an adventurous soul, Frank traveled the world extensively through his military service, professional career, and personal adventures. He fished all over the United States and during his time in Egypt could often be found fishing the shores of the Red Sea. Above all else, Frank devoted his life to his family and his work. He was a man who could fix anything, and he was known by all as uniquely reliable, independent, kind, and always ready to offer help or a signature dad joke.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Arlene Olson; his five children, Laura Stevenson, Terry Mercier, Michelle Matteis, Dana O'Leary, and John Olson; his sister, Jenny Wigertz; and his eight cherished grandchildren, Shannon, Sean, Paige, Daniel, Liam, Patrick, Molly, and Cade.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a viewing on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home, located at 245 Montauk Highway, West Sayville, NY 11796. A chapel service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram, New York.
