Evelyn Gibbons (nee Saunders) Passed away peacefully Saturday, November 16, 2024. Born in New York City, Mrs. Gibbons lived in the Washington Heights section which at the time was predominantly an Irish immigrant community. She lived in New Jersey after her marriage including Woodbridge and Jamesburg before moving to the Clearbrook adult community in Monroe Township in 1996.
Mrs. Gibbons attended St. Catherine of Genoa Elementary School. Later, she attended St. Catharine Academy in the Bronx for high school. Mrs. Gibbons was employed for 27 years as a librarian at ITT located in Manhattan prior to her retirement. Mrs. Gibbons was the 4th of five daughters born to John Joseph and Norah Theresa (Heneghan) Saunders who immigrated to the United States from Roscommon and Mayo Ireland.
Mrs. Gibbons was predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas Gibbons and her sisters Helen Crawford and Patricia Ciniglio. Surviving are her sisters Mary Crawford of Hicksville, NY and Anne Saunders of Sayville, NY as well as twelve loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Wednesday, November 20th 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Raynor & D'Andrea Funeral Home, 245 Montauk Hwy., West Sayville
Funeral Mass: Thursday, November 21st 10:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence RC Church, 240 W. Main St., Sayville
