Elizabeth A. Galante

In Loving Memory of Elizabeth “Betty” Galante who passed away on June 6th, 2025. Beloved wife of Gaeton “Guy”, Mother of Denise and Paul, Stepmother of Pamella and Michelle, Grandmother of Megan, Michael, Paige, Christopher, Grayson and Simon.

Born January 27, 1943. She was always adventurous and mischievous, if they said “don’t do it” she did it. Betty grew up in Central Islip and spent a lot of time tagging along with her parents to their work at the NY State Psychiatric Hospital, where she would frequently use the laundry chute as a slide. Her childhood also included summer trips to the family farm in England, and even a voyage on the Queen Mary. At 18 Betty was in a car accident that she was lucky to survive. Despite losing her left leg from below the knee, she always stayed positive and never complained. Even after her accident her faith never wavered. Her friends would load her into the back of a station wagon in her body cast to take her church services at the drive-in theater. Betty had a long career as a switchboard operator. After taking an extended break to raise her two children, she continued her work in telecommunications with Suffolk County where she worked up until retirement. Betty always had a love for cats, she was easily entertained watching judge and cop television shows, and enjoyed long car rides and day trips. In addition to her love for God, family meant everything to her. Betty was the perfect mix of tough and caring, she was respected and beloved by many.

Visitation- Sunday June 8, 2025 from 2:00 - 4:00 & 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., at our West Sayville Funeral Home, 245 Main St.

Funeral Mass- Tuesday June 10, 2025 at 11:15 a.m. at St. Lawrence RC Church, Sayville

Interment- St. John of God Cemetery, Central Islip
