Edward (Ed) Sturm was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, whose life was rooted in love for family, nature, and the simple joys of being together. He built a life centered in hard work, creativity and caring deeply for those around him.
Born in the Bronx and raised in New Hyde Park, NY, he entered the US Navy upon his graduation from high school. Following his service, he married Carol, his wife of 43 years, and together raised four children; Deborah, Edward, Noreen and Douglas. He spent many years working for the telephone company, where his commitment reflected the values he carried throughout his life.
Upon his retirement, he moved to Roxbury, NY- a place that became a true home and gathering spot, filled with warmth, laughter and cherished memories. Even after the passing of Carol, he became the family patriarch and the glue that brought the family closer together.
Ed had a passion for cooking that he loved to share, thereby creating gatherings for friends and family over shared meals made with care and flavored with family heritage. He found peace in gardening and had a natural connection to animals, especially his countless cats over the years. Nature and the outdoors were where he felt most at ease, and Roxbury provided the perfect backdrop for the life he loved – a sanctuary surrounded by family, fresh air, quiet and meaningful moments.
Family time there was especially treasured, and those visits remain some of the most cherished memories for all who shared them. His presence was always welcoming, and his legacy will live on, imprinted in the memories he leaves behind and the values he passed down.
Ed will be remembered for his kindness, love of nature, his pride in his family, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Akelis and Frederick Wilhelm, his brother Frederick "Fritzie" W. Sturm, Jr., and his beloved wife Carol Ann Sturm.
He is survived by his loving children and their devoted spouses, Deborah and Sean Clancy, Edward and Susan Sturm, Noreen and Tom Higdon, and Douglas and Tara Sturm; his cherished grandchildren, Sean O'Donnell (Samantha), Sean Clancy (Carly), Lauren O'Donnell (Tom), James DeMayo (Alexandra), Maxwell Sturm (Katherine), Lauren DeMayo (Michael), Madison Sturm (Michael), Thomas Higdon (Claudia), Brendan Higdon, Quinton Sturm, Cullen Sturm, Ryan Clancy, Mason Ramey, and Connor Clancy; many other treasured extended family members, and numerous faithful friends, chosen as family.
