Edith Louise Richards, 70, of Fultonville, New York, passed away suddenly on October 7, 2025. Born and raised in Bayport, New York, Edith was one of six children of the late Margaret and Richard Richards. She graduated from Bayport-Blue Point High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree at Southampton College and her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Simmon’s University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Edie loved her work as a librarian and worked in several libraries throughout New York. While on Long Island, she worked in Mount Sinai School District where she was proud to have helped to design and develop their new library. After moving to Montgomery County, Edie worked as librarian in the Bacon Elementary School, as Library Director at the Gloversville Free Public Library and most recently as Assistant Director with the Hamilton Fulton Montgomery BOCES program. Edie was a skilled grant writer and was proud to have been only one of five people in the past thirty years recognized with the HFM BOCES Award.
Edie loved animals of all kinds and spent time outdoors any chance that she had, regardless of the weather. She loved hiking, canoeing, swimming, horseback riding and reading. Edie also enjoyed playing in the Amsterdam Bell Choir and ushering for their upstate performances.
Edie is survived by her siblings, Jeff Richards of California, Meredith D’Andrea and her husband Gil of Islip, Bryan and Beth Richards of Virginia and Joanne Rosche and her husband Jeff of Center Moriches, as well as her many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret in 1970.
Friends and relatives will gather on Sunday, October 19th, 2-6 p.m. at Raynor & D’Andrea Funeral Home in West Sayville. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 20th at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Sayville and interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
