Doris Virginia Meyer, Age 89, of Bayport, New York
August 6, 1935 – February 15, 2025
Doris, a devoted wife, beloved mother, adored grandmother and great grandmother, loving sister and sister-in-law, and dear aunt, passed away at home, on February 15, 2025.
She was predeceased in 2016, by her loving husband of 60 years; Frank, and survived by her daughter Karen, son Frank, daughter Marlene and son-in-law Gregg, son Donald, son James and her daughter-in-law Marissa, her grandchildren; Derek, Alissa, Nicholas, Greyson, Victoria, Christian, Caitlin, her great grandchildren; Bennett, Nolan, Jaxson, Kennedy, her brother; Donald, and she was predeceased by her brothers; Paul and Richard.
Doris grew up in Queens Village and later moved to Bayport, where she met her husband; Frank. It was love at first sight. They married in 1956 and went on to have five children. Doris was a devoted mother who always put the needs of her children first. She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed taking her grandchildren on long walks to the playground, helping out after school with homework, and making trips to the store where they were allowed to pick out one special treat. Doris had a long history of taking care of others, having both her grandmother, and then her mother live in her home for several years. She had a voice that was as beautiful as she was. It was a joy to listen to her sing, whether it was at church or in the kitchen. She enjoyed crocheting and puzzles. One of her favorite past times was working out in the yard, and she had a gift of nurturing the saddest little house plants back to life. She also volunteered for the American Cancer Society, soliciting transportation for cancer patients to get to their treatments. Hers was a heart of gold, and the memories she gave to all who knew her will be treasured.
